The Spirit of the 1913 Armory Show and the Marking of Artistic Modernism in America
On April 17, 2013 at 10am, our guest lecturer Baila Miller will discuss the now famous 1913 Armory Show, the first large exhibition of Modern Art in the United States. It became a milestone of unprecedented scope. For the first time, Americans saw avant-garde European art. This new language in paintings and sculpture included examples of Fauvism, Cubism, and Futurism. New Yorkers were more shocked than delighted!
